Fun Non-Candy Ideas for Kids Easter Baskets

My daughter is sensitive to sugar. (It’s VERY obvious when she’s had sweets.) So over the years I’ve made it a point to fill the Easter basket with non-candy items. (Don’t get me wrong, I still add a few sweets.) I keep my eye out for fun things that are small enough to go in the basket, and that would be lots of fun to play with immediately upon opening.

In this list, you’ll see ideas for babies through preteens as well as suggestions for indoor and outdoor fun.Try some of these in your child’s next Easter basket. You’ll also find ideas to do themed baskets for superheroes, princesses, fairy garden, sports, and Minecraft.

For 3 and Under

Anything little hands can hold (but not put in their mouth) will excite the youngest kiddos. Try items with added novelty such as interesting textures or sounds..

Easter means spring, and springtime means gardening. Take these pretend play gardening items out of the box and spread them around inside the basket.

Ages 3 and Up

Keep kids’ hands busy with things like these pull-back animals, pop-its, fidget toys, squishy eggs, or nesting dolls (all of which have been a huge hit in our house).

No Easter basket is complete without at least one stuffed animal. Don’t feel like you have to stick with the typical bunny. There are plenty other cute plush animals to choose from like this adorable hedgehog.

Even older kids still like stuffies. I know some preteens who would love to find a pom pom keychain in their Easter basket.

Active Toys

Help kids burn off energy with these active toys. Some are meant for outdoors, but some can be used indoors as well.

We LOVE anything from Sarah’s Silks. I feel like I own almost everything listed in her store. You might worry that the items won’t last because silk sounds fragile. But we have had lots of items for over two years now with no tears on anything. I’ve bought silk items for all the young cousins in the family, and theirs are still in great condition too. So don’t hesitate to put the following items into that Easter basket.

Themed Basket Ideas

Easter baskets filled with goodies centered around a theme can be extra fun. Here are suggestions for themes like Fairy Garden, Super Hero, Sports, and Princess. But you can do so much more. Just get creative!

Fairy Garden

Make the whole Easter basket a fairy garden themed basket. Remove the fairy items from their packaging and spread them around the basket to make it fun and attractive. You can even put some of the smaller pieces inside their own plastic eggs. You can find plenty of additional fairy garden items at the dollar store.

Sports Theme

Make it a sports themed basket and fill it with active toys.

Princess Theme

A princess themed basket would look so adorable all wrapped up in cellophane and tied with a bow.

Superhero Theme

Imagine the excitement when a Super hero fan discovers a basket filled with super goodies!

Minecraft Theme
